Starlink for Serpentine properties

Serpentine sits about 55 km south-east of Perth on the South Western Railway, with around 1,500 residents at the 2021 Census. Close by, Serpentine National Park runs along the edge of the Darling Scarp, with jarrah and marri forest and the Serpentine Falls, and properties nearer the scarp often have tall trees close to the house.

Starlink needs a wide, clear view of the sky, so trees are the main thing that decides whether an install goes smoothly. Placement matters: a dish mounted higher, or a few metres to one side, can be the difference between a steady connection and one that drops out whenever the branches move.

Getting the dish above the trees

I look at the whole property, whether that is the house roof, a shed or a pole, and choose the spot with the best view of the sky. Where a roof mount would sit under branches, a taller pole mount in a clearer spot often solves it.
